This fast standard standard zoom, built to Leica’s stringent quality standards, is a fast and versatile lens that is great for general-purpose photography with L-mount cameras. The Vario-Elmarit-SL 24–90 f/2.8–4 ASPH also provides a close focusing distance of just 0.3m at its wide end and 0.45m at its tele end, which means it’s also a handy tool for close-up photography, further bolstered by its maximum magnification factor of 1:3.8 at the telephoto end.

Leica has also included Optical Image Stabilisation, which provides a 3.5-stop exposure advantage by counteracting the effects of camera-shake, making the lens even more useful in low light. Its sophisticated optical construction of 18 elements in 6 moving groups, with four aspherical elements and 11 elements made from glasses with anomalous partial dispersion, means that aberrations are kept to an absolute minimum, resulting in utterly superior optical quality.
